Royds School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities which contribute towards our personal development #LiveLoveLearn challenge. Our after school clubs are a fantastic opportunity to introduce new experiences to young people outside of their studies. They build skills, confidence and independence. Some clubs are a great way to develop and progress skills within a subject, whilst others have been carefully crafted to engage young minds and imagination.
We are also very proud of our comprehensive sports program and encourage all students to participate in at least one club. Students have the opportunity to clubs in a variety of sports such as Football, Rugby, Basketball, Trampoline, Gymnastics, Tennis, Cricket, Netball, Hockey, Rounders and Athletics teams. Our teams have an excellent record in competitive sports and each year our teams regularly succeed in winning area and city championships. This success helps to support many of our students gain representative honors for the city, West Yorkshire, gaining places in training academies (e.g. Leeds Rhinos) and even competing at the Olympics.
Educational visits are vital to enriching and bringing alive the classroom experiences. We run international visits as well as many more local, smaller trips. They are essential to broadening horizons and establishing a culture of independence and resilience across the school. In addition to this, all Year 9 students are encouraged to complete the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.
Our Performing Arts extracurricular activities have gone from strength to strength in recent years. These range from musical productions to extra-curricular clubs such as Choir, Jazz Band and Keyboard. These activities are an important part of school life, providing students with opportunities to display their talents and giving them the chance to work as team to achieve a common goal.
There are many different clubs running at different times of year. A termly timetable will be displayed in form rooms and is available from Student Services. After school clubs run from 2.30 to 3.45. The school operates a Late Bus that leaves Royds at 3.45. All students are eligible to use it.
