In Performing Arts, we intend to inspire and instill a deeper appreciation of Music and Drama. We want students to develop a level of confidence that allows them to flourish both academically and personally. In Key Stage 3, we aim to give each student a solid foundation in the arts. Lessons are predominantly practical, including improvisational skills and the learning of an instrument. At Key Stage 4, students will develop themselves further as actors and musicians with experience and expertise in areas such as performance, composition and theoretical knowledge. Students will be given greater independence in preparation for further study and general life skills.
Our curriculum is organised in such a way that provides our students with the opportunity to learn expected behaviours and be successful in their learning so that we can achieve our #LiveLoveLearn mission. Our strategic intent is therefore very simple:
We strive to create a curriculum which:
- Has an inclusive culture, allowing all students to achieve their potential both creatively and emotionally
- Provides opportunities for enrichment of all students
- Personalises creative learning
- Encourages challenge and allows students to move beyond their comfort zone
- Develops confident and empathetic individuals who have an appreciation of both their own talents and those of others in society
Our curriculum is designed in a way that allows students at Key Stage 3, to develop their appreciation of The Arts and the fundamental key areas within Drama and Music. Moving into Year 9, students will be studying a more diverse curriculum, allowing students to become actors and musicians, learning the ‘tools of the trade’. Within the final years of our curriculum we pull together the prior knowledge and experiences of students and hone their skills in preparation for examination. Students learn to work independently and responsibly within a nurturing environment enabling them to make the right life choices.
In Performing Arts, we believe in aspiration, you can become anyone you want to be. Reach for the stars. Resilience is key; never give up on your hopes and dreams and learn from your mistakes; they will only make you stronger. Respect others and yourself. The sky’s the limit. Rehearse, reflect, rehearse again. Believe you can reach your goal!
