The Royds Student Council: Taking the lead to enhance school life.
Student Leadership is the key to the success of any school. As a Student Centred Learning Community, Royds are keen for students to take an active role in enhancing school life. Listening to the young people at Royds plays a vital role in promoting the views of students, as well as developing their leadership skills.
To provide a forum for students to share and discuss their views about the school a Student Council has been established and recently expanded. The council consists of individual form reps, year reps and the school council which is led by ambassadors in Post-16.
The form reps will discuss whole-school matters on a half-termly basis, the year councils will meet weekly and the school council will come together to meet with Mr Kelly and Mr Faulkner on a termly basis to hold a formal meeting. This gives all students the opportunity to discuss many areas of school life and help to make a difference.
In recent meetings the issues of interest brought by the students included lunch provision, whole-school charity events, fund raising. Each of these created much discussion around the table and many suggestions arose from the meetings.
The Student Council have prioritised the following areas for focus during this academic year:
Teaching and Learning
Charity, Events and Fundraising
Building and School Environment
Extra Curricular Activities
PR and Communication
