Ofsted inspected the school on the 25th and 26th September 2018. This was a fair and rigorous application of the previous Ofsted framework, which changed in September 2019. The overall school judgement was still “Requires Improvement”, however Leadership and Management retained the “Good” rating and Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare was rated “Good”. We were pleased that the report recognised the significant improvements made during the previous two years and acknowledges the positive future that lies ahead with our new #LiveLoveLearn mission. A 2019 monitoring report confirmed this. These reports can be viewed on the Ofsted website.

The previous Ofsted framework was felt by many to be too exam focused and did not consider a wide enough breadth of school life into its judgements. From September 2019, the way Ofsted grades schools changed. Judgements are based on “Quality of Education”, “Personal Development”, “Behaviour and Attitudes”, “Personal Development” and “Leadership and Management”. As this 2018 report shows, these are our areas of strength. We are confident that with basic foundations now in place and a secure, sustainable, happy and motivated staff body, exciting times are ahead!
Exam performance has improved dramatically in recent years. In 2019, students who had 98% attendance or above had a Progress 8 score of 0.49. While we are proud of this improvement, we are far from complacent and will continue to raise achievement and secure the best possible outcomes for our students. Visit the Government Compare School Performance website for more information and for Post 16 performance information.
We are committed to offering a wider school experience and the achievements of our students beyond exam results can be seen on the school’s social media feeds.
